Vitamins are essential micronutrients for the development of the organism. It is a chemical substance that helps the organism of living beings to function correctly. Vitamins must obtain from outside through food; the body does not produce them.

Plant-based food, animal origin, and dietary supplements are the sources of vitamins. So, the vitamin is essential for life and the daily activities people carry out—for example, vitamin A, vitamin B3, and vitamin C. Due to a lack of specific vitamins, it has been observed that many diseases are generated, and it can also prevent some chronic diseases.

Vitamins are either fat-soluble (dissolve in fats and oils) or water-soluble (dissolve in water). Excess fat-soluble vitamins are stored in the body’s fatty tissue, but extra water-soluble vitamins are in the urine. Therefore, examples of vitamins are vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E.

Classification of Vitamins

Quickly the discovery of vitamins came with their first classification, according to their absorption form in the body.

Water soluble vitamins (C, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B8, B9, B12). They are the ones that dissolve in water, making their consumption firmer because washing and cooking food causes their loss.

Fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K). Instead, they are the ones that dissolve in fats and oils, and when they enter the body, they store in the fatty tissues that it has, as well as in the liver.

What Foods are Sources of Vitamin E?

Green leafy vegetables: Broccoli and spinach contain vitamin E.

Food manufacturers add vitamin E to certain breakfast cereals, fruit juices, margarine, and spreads, among other foods.
